KVGD-LP’s The Simcoe Spot with Nancy Barron Live at Studio Suite Seven in Goldendale, WA on Feb. 19, 2016
KVGD-LP’s The Simcoe Spot Musicians’ Showcase for Klickitat County with Nancy Barron on Feb. 19, 2016 – Simcoe Spot Program No. 7 MP3
Featured guest on KVGD-LP’s The Simcoe Spot for Feb. 19, 2016 was Nancy Barron of Goldendale, WA. This weekly hour-long program produced by Goldendale Community Radio features Columbia Gorge singer-songwriters who come in to play and talk about their craft. Nancy Barron is a prolific songwriter whose inspiration comes from nature and seasonal change. Nancy brought her dulcimer with her to KVGD-LP’s Studio Suite Seven on Friday night. She describes her song writing process including how she goes about getting her ideas down on paper, and the software she uses to publish her completed songs.
Nancy Barron, a retired psychologist, moved to the Northwest more than 35 years ago to enjoy its great outdoors. She lives near her friend among her beloved trees in the foothills of The Simcoe Mountains. She thrives on her involvement with the Goldendale Library and Writers’ Bloc, a writing support group founded by Teddy Cole, former Goldendale Community Librarian. Nancy also served as a co-editor along with Ruth Bruns, for the Goldendale Library Friends’ publication of Bluelight to Pucker Huddle: Discovering Klickitat County. During the interview, Nancy talked about these projects, her songwriting process and her participation in, and completion of, the 2015 RPM Challenge that resulted in her first CD, Singing The Year Around. The CD consists of thirteen original songs written and performed by Nancy with the help of others.
She is a prolific songwriter who compiles a new songbook each year which she shares with her friends and family. She credits the source of this avocation as her participation in songwriting workshops presented by Mother Lode, a group that has been performing together for more than 35 years. She has returned many times to Northwest Song Camp for the musical instruction, camaraderie and enjoyment of the craft.
Nancy Barron is a past participant in KVGD-LP’s Annual Poetry Contest. In fact, she was a prize winner during the past two years. The annual contest runs from mid-February to the third week of April. The Third Annual KVGD-LP Poetry Contest raises funds for Goldendale Community Radio operations. A per poem entry fee of $2 is required and the deadline for entries is April 15, 2016.
